I discovered this plant on a hike into the Haleakala crater in Maui, Hawaii. The image is obviously distorted, but seeing this plant alone in the rocky soil, inside the 10,000-foot high volcano with almost no other vegetation around, made it look surreal to begin with.
At first glance the plant appeared metallic and sharp-tipped, but when I touched it I found the leaves were soft and covered with a gentle silver fur. This image reminds me that some things in life aren’t what they appear to be at first glance. Often times you need to take a little risk, reach out and touch something for yourself, in order discover the truth.
