In 1999 I moved from California to the East Coast. It was a shocking change of environment, but I instantly fell in love with New York City, which I now consider to be my home. What I like most about New York is how it feels like small pieces of everywhere I have ever been before.

On this particular day I was with some friends visiting from Sweden who got the spontaneous urge to see the Empire State Building. An interes thing about living in New York is that you rarely go to a tourist site unless someone from out of town comes to visit.

I haven’t been back to the Empire State Building since, but I am content to enjoy the memory through this picture.  For me, it captures the way New York can make you feel like you’re standing in the center of the world, where every sense and experience is magnified beyond any reality you’ve know before.
