In spring of 2003 I landed a consulting job that sent me to Europe. I had spent the previous months without any work or income, so this work opportunity came as a great relief to a long period of anxiety and challenge. Fortune had it that I was able to stop over in Barcelona, a city I loved as a teenager when I had worked at the Olympics a decade earlier.

Only now do I realize how accurately this image captures what that time felt like in my life; the darkness finally lifting and life accelerating towards a new day that I thought might never come.
