I expected my trip to Venice to be romantic and exciting. But without any money, or someone lovely to share it with, the experience turned out more somber than I anticipated. Times like these make me wonder why I travel in the first place. Especially when so many of my trips end up being more difficult and lonely than I ever expected.
But each time I stumble upon a scene like this I am reminded of the answer: I travel to search for the pieces of life that feel most real; most authentic; and most timeless. These are hard won moments. They slip by quickly and are easy to miss. And while rare, they always prove the journey to be worthwhile in the end.
